Bhagavad_Gita-Song_of_God_pb
“Being established in yoga… perform your actions, casting off attachment and remaining even-minded in both success and in failure. This evenness is called yoga.”
— Bhagavad Gita 2.48

Karma Yoga is said to be a natural and practical path toward spiritual realization. As Sri Krishna points out, you will continue to act (work) as long as you’re alive. Since that’s the case, the question then becomes, “What can I do each day to make my actions lead toward, rather than away from, my goal?”

This is the topic of discussion in this talk.

Bhakti Yoga by Swami Vivekananda

Bhakti Yoga
by Swami Vivekananda

Bhakti-Yoga is a real, genuine search after the Lord, a search beginning, continuing and ending in Love. One single moment of the madness of extreme love to God brings us eternal freedom. "Bhakti," says Narada in his explanation of the Bhakti-aphorisms, "is intesnse love to God." — "When a man gets it, he loves all, hates none; he becomes satisfied for ever." — "This love cannot be reduced to any earthly benefit," because as long as worldly desires last, that kind of love does not come. "Bhakti is greater than Karma, greater than Yoga, because they are intended for an object in view, while Bhakti is its own fruition, its own means and its own end." — from Chapter 1, "Definition of Bhakti"

Narada's Way of Divine Love: The Bhakti Sutras by Swami Prabhavananda

Narada's Way of Divine Love: The Bhakti Sutras
by Swami Prabhavananda

Love has a Divine Essence. We experience this to some degree in all of our human relationships since the love that we feel for one another is actually the attraction of God dwelling within. This love can lead us to God-realization, for, as the ancient sage Narada teaches, God is love. Narada's Bhakti Sutras are the most important Hindu text on the path of love, or Bhakti-Yoga. By directing our passions towards God, we discover that it is possible to have a relationship with God. The relationship deepens until finally we realize that we are never separate from God — our true, divine nature is simply waiting to be revealed.

Practical Vedanta by Swami Vivekananda

Practical Vedanta
by Swami Vivekananda

Vivekananda was known for his “common sense.” This anthology explains, in clear terms, the aspects of Vedanta philosophy that are applicable to our daily lives.

Excerpt: “The ideal of faith in ourselves is of the greatest help. If this faith had been more extensively taught and practiced, I am sure a very large portion of the evils and miseries that we have would have vanished.

Throughout history, if any motive power has been more potent than another in the lives of great men and women, it is that of faith in themselves.”
